Buying our current church property at 9111 River Rd, Potomac, MD 20854, has its own history of great spiritual charge. From the words of Father Calciu, stored in video format, the 3 acres property at 9111 River Rd, Potomac, MD was considered providential. All other properties available at the time had their drawbacks. The property in Potomac however, had both inherent and contextual strengths: acquiring it around the Feast Day of St. Ap Andrew (December 1) coincided with the blessing of the foundation stone for the construction of People’s Salvation Cathedral in Bucharest, Romania; ita availability for a long time, its reduced price from $ 2,000,000 to $ 1,595,000 and the beautiful words written by the real estate agent who facilitated its purchase. All these were understood by Father Calciu and his disciples as a divine sign that this is the land meant for our community. Here, Father Calciu, together with all believers, will propose building the much wanted Romanian Orthodox Churches with second feast day of “Saint Apostle Andrew the First Called.” In the autumn of 2005 it was acquired this property and the faithful who have believed in this project, donated large sums to pay direct for this purchase. The property was acquired at a price of $ 1.595 million dollars.
In 2015 the community refinanced the loan and the total amount left $ 1,210,000. The community initiated the Campaign “Full payment of the Loan” and the faithful joined the effort to pay the loan in full. Through the love of the faithful have donated a significant amount so that the new loan was reduced to $ 1,000,000 without the need guarantor. In April 2016, the total loan amount to the sum of $ 986,000.00. We thank all those who participated in the campaign “Full payment of the Loan” and pray that God bless!
During 2016-2017, the property suffered major changes: the public water line was installed on the property, a septic system was created, a new parking lot was finished and a pre-manufactured church building was installed as well. This entire project called “Father Gheorghe Calciu Dumitreasa Center” costed approximately $ 850,000. Because we didn’t have the necessary fund, we had to borrow from the bank another $ 250,000.
Thus, at the beginning of 2017, the community had a new location to gather for weekly religious services and for socio-cultural events. The new total amount owned to the bank was $ 1,240,000 with a monthly payment of approximately $ 8,740.00 for the next 5 years.
To pay the monthly installment of the loan for the property, was initiated a Pledge Program / Promised calling for all believers, to pledge a monthly donation, voluntary and constant after the words of Sacred Scripture: “Every give as muses with his heart, not grudgingly or under compulsion, for God loves the one who gives with joy.” (2 Cor. 9,7) This campaign is in full swing and please participate after your possible! We encourage a monthly pledge of $ 100.00 per person / $ 200.00 per family which (if collected form at lest approximately 100 people) will cover all the costs related to the property and new building.
Thank you and God bless you!
